Upon completion of the degree, you may be eligible to apply to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

UOW College provides pathway options for students who do not meet the entry requirements for the UOW course that they are interested in studying.

The UOW College Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) provides students with the knowledge, skills and attributes to become an Enrolled Nurse.

Package offers are available for the UOW College Diploma of Nursing with seamless progression into the UOW Bachelor of Nursing with 48 credit points (entry to second year) following successful completion of the Diploma of Nursing and registration as an Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA.

I am a non-school leaver

If you are a non-school leaver, a mature-age student, studying at TAFE or finishing your gap year, you have a number of options to kickstart your nursing career at UOW.

I am an International Student

If you are an International student, you have a number of options to study Nursing at UOW. 

Bachelor of Nursing

3 years

The Bachelor of Nursing prepares you for a career as a registered nurse.

Upon completion of the degree, you may be eligible to apply to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Registration with NMBA will require you to be a native English speaker, or achieve an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 7.0 in all four test categories: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

This one-year degree provides Australian registered nurses and International students with the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications to a Bachelor's degree level.

Please note that this degree does not lead to eligibility to apply for registration as a nurse in Australia.

Applicants with any other nursing related qualification should apply for the Bachelor of Nursing and seek credit approval which means you could graduate in 2 years.

I have finished year 10

If you have not completed your HSC, UOW College offers a Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021) or Certificate IV in Ageing Support (CHC43015). This provides a pathway to further nursing studies.

Certificate III in Individual Support

5 months

UOW College provides pathway options for students who do not meet the entry requirements for the UOW course that they are interested in studying.

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is a 5-month course which reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential settings who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. This course is designed for domestic students studying in Australia.

On successful completion of the Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Ageing Support and subject to meeting entry requirements, you may progress to the UOW College HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing. The Diploma of Nursing provides a pathway to the UOW Bachelor of Nursing.

5 months

UOW College provides pathway options for students who do not meet the entry requirements for the UOW course that they are interested in studying.

On successful completion of the Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Ageing Support and subject to meeting entry requirements, you may progress to the UOW College HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing. The Diploma of Nursing provides a pathway to the UOW Bachelor of Nursing.

Chris Patterson: I think the Honours program is really worth considering. It really can set people up for their future career in nursing. It's a year full-time, two-years part time, and I think it's really worth thinking about if you have a particular area of interest you want to research.

Taylor Yousiph: I used to read papers and articles and not really understand them very well; during the Honours year though, and doing the systematic review just had a great opportunity to be able to learn how to synthesise that evidence, to read it, to understand it, and be able to even integrate that into practice.

Chris Patterson: After a number of years as a clinical practice nurse, a lot of nurses do look for those higher management or clinical consultant or education positions, and an Honours degree really is a solid foundation that boosts you into those positions and helps you drive change in an evidence-based way for the future.

Taylor Yousiph: The research skills that you develop in an Honours degree are skills that will set you up for a really privileged nursing career in the future. It's just such an amazing experience, so I would encourage anybody to do it. It's what I would end with.
