The Majors and the No-major Option

All Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) students must satisfy the Course Rules specified above. In particular, all students, both those who do not choose a major and those who do, must take the additional subjects which are specific to those options and are detailed via the links below, together with suggested programs of study.

For students taking no major:

For students taking a major:

Professional Recognition/Accreditation

FASEA:  The Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) major in Financial Planning and the Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours)(Dean's Scholar) major in Financial Planning is approved by the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA). Students graduating with these degrees automatically satisfy the educational requirements to become a Financial Planner AFP®, and allow for entry into the CFP® Certification Program without the need for a bridging program.

FTA: The Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) is a recognised discipline with the Finance and Treasury Association (FTA) and students are encouraged to apply for membership with the association. Full-time students of the degree and graduates under 30 years of age may wish to join the Pathways membership which offers discounts to all Member local events but excludes the national conference. This offers an introduction into the treasury and risk disciplines.

FINSIA: On completion of the degree, students are eligible for Affiliate membership of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), and are encouraged to join the institute to help develop their career in financial services.

Actuarial Studies: Students who wish to pursue a professional actuarial qualification and achieve sufficiently high grades in the Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) degree have the opportunity to enter the 2 year Master of Actuarial Practice degree at Macquarie University. Credit towards this Masters degree may be available to students who have a suitable background. Such application to reduce the volume of learning required in the Master of Actuarial Practice degree are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Students completing the Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) degree also have the opportunity to enter into the Master of Actuarial Studies at UNSW.
