Special Education | 2019

Overview

The Master of Education (Special Education) is specifically designed to provide professional training for trained teachers to take up special education positions in schools.

Students are provided with the knowledge and skills needed to support the full range of learning needs of students with special needs. They will learn to plan, implement and evaluate whole school interventions.

The Master of Education (Special Education) has been approved as a professionally oriented Masters program eligible for Student Income Support. For further information contact the Department of Human Services (Centrelink) on 132 490.

Course Structure

The Master of Education (Special Education) requires:

  1. The successful completion of 72 credit points comprising:
    1. 3 core subjects (18cp). EDGZ921 must be completed within the first 36 credit points of study and EDGS936 be completed in the final session of the degree;
    2. 4 subjects (24cp) selected from the Special Education specialisation; and
    3. 5 electives (30cp) selected from any Master of Education specialisation, including Special Education.
  2. No more than 4 subjects (24cp) will be at 800 level.

* EDGS930 is a compulsory requirement for teachers wishing to qualify with the Department of Education as Special Education Teachers.

Please Note: Elective subjects may be cancelled if minimum enrolment numbers are not met.

Professional Accreditation

This program is approved by the Department of Education (DE) as a postgraduate qualification in special education for primary/secondary trained teachers.
