2018 Master of Education Advanced (TESOL)

The TESOL specialisation provides students with an in-depth understanding of areas such as second language development, discourse analysis, pedagogical grammar, research methods, language assessment, English for specific purposes, and computer assisted language learning.

Students in this Master's degree broaden their TESOL study by undertaking further study in one of the following additional focus areas:

Course Structure 

The Master of Education Advanced (TESOL) requires the successful completion of 96 credit points, comprising:

  1. 72 credit points for the TESOL specialisation, which includes:
    1. 3 core subjects.  EDGZ921 must be completed within the first 36 credit points and EDGT991 be completed towards the end of the degree;
    2. 7 subjects selected from the TESOL specialisation list; and
    3. 2 electives selected from any Master of Education specialisation.
  2. 24 credit points in one additional focus area (Educational Leadership or Information and Communication Technology in Education and Training) as detailed below.

No more than 24 credit points shall be completed at 800 level.

Professional Recognition/Accreditation

This program does not lead to accreditation as a teacher in Australian schools.  Those who already have an Australian teaching qualification should note that the University of Wollongong is recognised by the Department of Education (DE) as a provider of ESL qualifications for primary/secondary trained teachers.  DE accreditation will be dependent upon subject choice.
