Visual Communication Design Major | 2018

This major is available for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication and Media, and as a second major in the Bachelor of Arts.

The Visual Communications Design Major will introduce students to a range of design principles and practice in a contemporary regional and global context. Students will be encouraged to bring new vision to the graphic language of communication through typography, social impact design, spatial design, interaction design, underpinned by methods of design thinking and process. They will learn how to apply design principles to develop creative solutions and enhance innovation. This major will engage students with a range of projects that explore the media and technology forms that are relevant to contemporary and emerging design practice.

NOTE: Students in the Bachelor of Creative Arts/Bachelor of Communication and Media double degree (course code 1795) cannot take the 'Visual Arts and Design' major with the 'Visual Communication Design’ major.

Minors

Students completing the Visual Communication Design Major may be interested in one of the minors available in the Bachelor of Communication and Media, the Bachelor of Arts, or the Bachelor of Creative Arts.

Minors appear on the transcript (academic record), but do not appear on the testamur. To have a minor study recorded, students must submit an Application to Declare or Change Intended Major/Minor.

Work Integrated Learning

Undertaking a work integrated learning (WIL) experience during your university education is now a significant contributor to being competitive in securing employment in your field of choice when you graduate from UOW.

The Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts internship program provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their degree in a workplace setting.
Students' are also encouraged to consider CRLP200 (6cp). CRLP200 includes a quality assured workplace internship or industry project to give you that competitive edge by developing your professional skills through authentic learning in a real world context. You will focus on your career goals and receive career direction guidance, strengthen your resume and gain skills to navigate the rapidly changing world of work, develop your communication skills and begin to build a professional network.
