Work Integrated Learning for Career Readiness

Work Integrated Learning (or WIL) is the most commonly recognised term for student learning that combines theoretical and practical learning experiences within a workplace environment.  Students from UOW are keen to see the relevance of their course content applied to real-world situations and WIL provides the opportunity to link their discipline to a business or profession.

Often the missing link between an employers’ ‘wish list’ and a student, is a track record in a variety of workplace experiences.

Work related experiences don’t just increase your employability – they can also clarify your career intentions. For some, it can even be a ‘try before you buy’ for both student and employer.

UOW’s new Graduate Careers and Employability Unit has developed a suite of workplace programs and credit bearing subjects to help students increase their employability, which all students can access (undergraduates, postgraduates, domestic, international).

Undergraduate Degrees

To attain a place within the program, students competitively apply in the prior semester, and are selected by an interview panel for an internship or to complete a proposed innovation project in their discipline areas. The core purpose of the program is to offer experiential learning opportunities combined with rigorous reflection on globally responsible business practices and innovation practices in the workplace. The application and recruitment process is part of that learning.
