Course summary
The Undergraduate Certificate in Information Technology provides students with knowledge, technical skills and capabilities to prepare them for further studies and for employment in the Information Technology industry. Students are provided a range of experiences and opportunities to engage with core aspects of Information Technology, including programming, systems analysis, networks and web technologies, at the tertiary level. The Undergraduate Certificate provides pathways for entry into the Diploma of Information Technology with 24 credit points.
Undergraduate Certificates are higher education qualifications of six months duration that may be used to articulate with existing qualifications at AQF levels 5, 6, or 7. They qualify individuals with knowledge and skills for further study, professional upskilling, employment and participation in lifelong learning. See the course outline for more information.
The course is designed for domestic students, studying in Australia. UOW College is offering Commonwealth Supported Places for eligible students for this course. This means the Australian government will subsidise your tuition fees by up to 75%. To qualify for this fee subsidy, you must meet the criteria, i.e. be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or a permanent Australian Humanitarian visa holder.
Progression Guidelines
To qualify for the award of the Undergraduate Certificate in Information Technology, students must achieve a minimum result of 50% in any four approved subjects. Students who meet the requirements for the award of the Undergraduate Certificate can progress to the Diploma of Information Technology with 24 points of credit. The Diploma of Information Technology articulates into the following courses at the University of Wollongong with up to 48 credit points of advanced standing:
- Bachelor of Information Technology
- Bachelor of Business Information Systems
- Bachelor of Computer Science
This course is accredited by the University of Wollongong and delivered by UOW College (RTO: 91159). UOW College is a registered business name of UOWC Ltd (ABN: 14 105 312 329).

Entry Requirements
- Minimum ATAR 50
- Year 12 HSC Mathematics Advanced (any result) OR
- Year 12 HSC Mathematics Standard 2 ≥60%
HSC Assessment Results
Students can be admitted into a Undergraduate Certificate in IT based on their HSC Subject performance as indicated below:
- 4 HSC subjects ≥ 65%, OR
- 3 HSC subjects ≥ 70%
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum ATAR 45 (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), OR
- Interstate ATAR equivalent (such as Victoria’s ENTER or Queensland OP), OR
- Results in an overseas qualification deemed equivalent to minimum ATAR, OR
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
If any of the above entry requirements are not met, applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
