Bachelor of Performance auditions

Entry into the Bachelor of Performance is based on a combination of both academic results and audition scores. All applicants are required to audition to demonstrate their talents and potential to benefit from the course. The performing arts offers a wide variety of roles and occupations from acting, singing and directing to production, lighting, sound, stage management and set design. The performing arts form part of the creative industries sector; a $32 billion dollar industry that is one of the fastest growing in the world.

The Bachelor of Performance at UOW is a specialist course that will develop you as a self-reliant, highly skilled performing artist through a practice-based program. You will learn to apply practical skills and theoretical knowledge to contemporary performance as well as learn the techniques, strategies and processes of modern theatre-making. 

What you will study

Subjects will cover traditional interpretive actor training, developing your skills in acting, voice, singing and movement, and also focus on devised works for theatre and contemporary performance. You will study theatre-making with an emphasis on collaboration and ensemble practice. Subjects also cover the history and theory of theatre and professional practice.

Successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia.

Applicants are selected on the combination of ATAR and audition. Outstanding results in relevant subjects may be taken into account.

You will be required to attend an audition and must submit a Bachelor of Performance Registration Form (available from 1 July - 30 October).

EARLY ADMISSION
UOW Early Admission is how the results you’ve earned so far in Years 11 and 12 can secure you a place in a UOW degree before you sit your final exams. This program is for students currently completing their Higher School Certificate; an interstate equivalent or an International Baccalaureate in an on-shore Australian High School. Tertiary/Secondary Studies

Applicants who have completed and achieved an appropriate score in one of the following qualifications may be considered for admission:

  • Overseas Year 12, equivalent to Year 12 in Australia.
  • A previous Australian Year 12, ie ATAR, UAI, TER, OP, or equivalent.
  • A score in the International Baccalaureate equivalent to the required ATAR for this course.
  • Australian Qualification Framework (AQF): Advanced Diploma or Diploma.
  • TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).
  • A Diploma or Foundation Studies Program from a recognised private institution.
  • Minimum record of attendance, equal to 1/6 of a bachelor degree from an approved university, provided there is no exclusion or suspension.

Mature Age

Applicants who achieve an appropriate score in one of the following qualifications will be considered for admission:  

  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) for people over 20 years of age on 1 March in the year preceding enrolment. STAT can be used to gain admission to all undergraduate courses other than Engineering and Law. If you haven't been studying for some time you may want to consider a WEA STAT Preparation Course
  • Limited UAI (5-9 HSC units, including at least 2 units of English) for people over 20 years of age on 1 March in year preceding enrolment. From 2010 the UAI will be replaced by the ATAR.

The amounts are calculated based on the subject cluster and the Equivalent Full-time Study Load (EFTSL) value of the subject. Course Learning Outcomes

Students graduating from the Bachelor of Performance will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate skills and professional practices required of an actor or performer;
  2. Integrate and apply practical skills and theoretical knowledge to contemporary performance;
  3. Appraise and reflect critically on contemporary performance and its social, historical and political context;
  4. Apply techniques, strategies and processes of contemporary theatre-making;
  5. Communicate practical and conceptual ideas effectively and appropriately to a range of audiences and communities;
  6. Formulate, propose and produce new work.
