Course summary

The Diploma of Business is an in-depth preparation program which provides guaranteed entry** into the second year of UOW's Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Tertiary skills development embedded in all subjects in the Diploma of Business prepares you for successful participation in the second year of the degree, with an emphasis on a range of oral, written and presentation skills, including group work.

Assessment is by practical tasks, essays, mid-session tests and final examinations. Subjects have a lecture and tutorial format, or lecture and laboratory format, timetabled over five days.

The Diploma of Business is also available as a 3-session program.

**To successfully complete the program and progress to the relevant Bachelor degree, you must achieve 50% in all subjects.

Academic Requirements

  • 2-session Diploma: 10 below ATAR for UOW entry or international equivalent.
  • 3-session Diploma: 15 below ATAR for UOW entry or international equivalent.
If any of the above entry requirements are not met, application will be assessed on a case by case basis.

English Requirements

The following IELTS Academic scores are required to gain admission into the Diploma

  • 2-session Diploma: Overall IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with 6.0 in Reading and Writing, or equivalent
  • 3-session Diploma: Overall IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with 5.0 in Reading and Writing, or equivalent

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS COMPLETED IN ENGLISH: Applicants may be considered as meeting the English language requirements if successfully completing two (2) years of secondary or tertiary study at an approved institution where:

  • the language of instruction was English; and
  • the institution is located in a country where the official language is English.

The following citizenships may be considered for an English language waiver under the above guideline: Bahamas, Barbados, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, UK, USA.

Academic transcripts and an official letter from the institution certifying that English was the sole language of instruction and assessment must be provided. Previous study in English is considered on a case-by-case basis and does not automatically meet UOW's English language requirement.
